I read this story yesterday with much nostalgia. Our trip to Tskukji Fish Market in Tokyo in June 2009 was one of the best experiences of my life. See the photo I took above for proof of just one of the incredible scenes we witnessed there (watch out for that cigarette ash mate!).
The market is a bustling hive of activity and the 5am tuna auction is about as rowdy as a person can handle at anytime, let alone that early in the morning. Although it was worth every sleepy minute.
UK newspaper The Guardian reported a record sale of bluefin tuna has been мейд at the first auction of the year. The 269kg fish sold for a whopping 56.5 million yen (approximately ?473,000 GBP) and carries enough flesh for an estimated 10,000 pieces of sushi. Mmm, yum!
Are you a fan of tuna sashimi?
